Axe by laxon Axe by laxon
Was doing a tutorial and painted this little thing from scratch.
Turned out pretty realistic.

I think the detail is great! Did you use a stock photo for background or is there some technique to how you gave it all those bumps? I also like how the blood is more of a brick red and not a bright unrealistic red color. Great Detail!

I used a modified stock for the background :) It was meant to be a rough study so I didn't bother with that part. The axe is 100% me though :P

I posted a link in one of the comments below to the original tutorial I used. Its a really good method to making weapons like that.

Thats sweet the stock photo goes well with the axe. Dig the detail you put into the axe.

Looks like something I'd throw in someones face!
Then again I DO throw alot of things around...

Brilliantly painted! The background looks 3d! only thing I'd like you to work on is the woodwork, mate. Its a bit lacking in the Texture-department
ALSO,you mentioned a Tutorial, good sir. could you point me in the direction of a Link?

My best advice would be to stray away from attempting realism in your next few images.

Make some fantastical images purely from your imagination, and play with heavy texture. Use just one light source on these and have it be bright and vibrant. This will let you grasp more of colour and depth. Start small and work your way to a large image.

Try it out ^^

I really like your take on this tutorial - the textures you chose were more convincing and your execution is fantastic. The choice for the background was perfect and the blood an excellent addition. It's convincingly photo-realistic while still having that painterly quality. Cheers
